A typical week
The week will start by making a hand bound sketchbook. Kids will do quick portraits of all their classmates in order to remember them... This sketchbook will also hold class impressions at the end of every day, as well as our "plein air" sketches. Each day, the session will start with a little warm up of contour drawing and observation excercises with a background of French Music.
Every day, a quick summary of our work with pictures/video of our artwork will be posted on this blog.

Day 1: Monoprints
We will make monoprints (a hand printing technique widely used by Degas, who used to enhance them with pastels) of everyday French objects  and learn their names in French.
One of a kind original prints! samples below...(click on the pictures to enlarge)

Day 2: From Dada to Hollywood
This is the day for wire sculptures of our favorite Hollywood stars (see pictures below), a star in your room made out of recycles elements. What a trashy day!

 Day 3: Typography
Caroline will familiarize us with the importance of typography, a brief history covering various aspects of letter design and its applications, including handwriting, calligraphy, grafitti, advertising, labels etc..
we will make a collage inspired by Francis Picabia, Kurt Schwitters, Raoul Haussmann,  and other Dadaists.

Day 4: Plein air!
We'll be outside most of the session, sketching around the lake: people, trees, dogs, houses, boats, grass, birds, anything we see, observe and would like to have in our sketchbooks.  We will start the day by looking at Artist's sketchbooks to get some inspiration, and head out to the Lake Calhoun. We will use pens and pencils and watercolor/pastels to add a little color.

Examples of other projects
 Day x: Sidewalk chalk ephemera
We will chose a painting (Cezanne, Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec or Picasso...) and make a copy of it with chalk only on the sidewalk,  and a little sketch of it in our sketchbook - and maybe we'll get some change from the  passers by, just  like in France or Italy!

Day y: Green 3D self portraits
We will make self portraits with recycled elements.

Day z:  Les Mains uniquement  (Hands Only) - No scissors Collage
We will make a collage with old magazines, home made glue and our hands.

Day xx: Wood faces
Scrap wood, paint and glue and a little imagination, that's all we need today.
